Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American TV reporter, journalist and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career in the field of radio and television reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Two years later she became general reporter at NBC News in Washington. In 1981, she began covering for the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional correspondent. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a guest on the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the debate in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her contribution to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of notable stories, including the Iran-Contra scandal, budget tax reforms and arms control. Mitchell travelled with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan on numerous occasions for summits, and to discuss matters including the Iran Contra controversy.
